What is Chemical Peels?
A chemical peel is one of the least invasive ways to reverse the signs of sun damage and aging. Typically a treatment used to improve the tone and texture of the skin on your face, and décolleté (neck and chest), though arms, hands and legs may be treated as well. At Cotter Plastic Surgery we offer two levels of physician administered chemical peels; the Vitalize Peel® to address mild to moderate skin imperfections and the Rejuvenize Peel® to address moderate to severe skin imperfections.

What to Expect
A single peel can reverse some signs of aging. However, because aging of the skin is a chronic natural phenomenon, Dr. Cotter typically recommends a series of 2 to 3 peels scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart. To maintain your results, Dr. Cotter also recommends a twice daily medical grade skin care regimen and maintenance treatments every 8 to 12 months. With optimal treatment, patients will notice overall improvement in tone and texture of their skin including a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation or dark spots.

A chemical peel is usually a very safe procedure when performed by a qualified and experienced provider. Mild redness is expected after any type of chemical peel procedure. The degree of peeling will vary depending on the individual’s skin condition, degree of sun damage and the strength of the peel administered. Peeling can last from 3 to 7 days.
