What is Laser Vein Removal?
Laser vein removal or laser therapy is the gold standard for treating spider veins. Spider veins are tiny red, blue or purple thread like veins near the surface of the skin that can develop on any part of the body including the face, but most often appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. Spider veins may develop because of hormone changes, weight gain, prolonged sitting or standing or they may be an inherited family trait.

What to Expect
Laser vein removal uses a focused beam of light to target the vein. The heat generated from the laser coagulates the bold inside the vessel, causing it to collapse and seal. Over the next few weeks, the vessel will disappear, and the blood will be removed by the body’s scavenging cells. Although laser treatments do not prevent new veins from forming, it is a very effective treatment that usually produces few, if any, side effects.

A consultation with Dr. Cotter may be required prior to treatment.

Warning: Laser vein removal can be dangerous in inexperienced hands. Burns, permanent changes to your skin color, and scars can occur. Your laser hair removal treatment should only be done by a medical professional who is extremely skilled in using lasers and has in-depth knowledge of the skin.
